Is It American Custom To Put No Pictures Or Photos Or Shelves To Store Things In The Front Hall?
Many NRI’s here refuse to put things storage, photos, toys, pictures and even mirror for daily use in the front halll and rooms. They say it is American custom to do like that.My opinion is that our convenience is most important than meaningless formalities. My son in law from India even refuses to use the Window curtains,costingRS.8000/-nearly for the simple reason being the plastic rings are stitched outside and so look ugly when mounted. Now it is sleeping in the basement and we old people are suffering from cold since there is open space around our house. How to advise him/Suppose he is adamant natured. For silly reasons like this we hate to live here and count the days to India.God only can make him to think practically. We pray for that.
I have never heard of such a custom
CALL THE SENOR ABUSE HOT LINE IN YOUR AREA, YOU CANNOT LIVE LIKE THAT
THIS IS PARENT ABUSE
I’m American, as well as the rest of my family, back to 1754. I’ve never heard of such a thing. We utilize all of the wall space we have-especially in the halls where it is hard to place furniture. It looks so barren without pictures or shelves.
Well I don’t know what America THEY live in, but I know plenty of people who put shelves and pictures in the front hall of their houses. In fact, my front door has a curtain on it, and I have a table with a mirror over it right inside my front door, with photos of my family on the table. And I live in Texas, and that’s about as American as you can get. Don’t worry about what other people think….decorate any old way you want…..that’s what so great about living here in America…..we have the right to decorate our houses however we want!
i am 32 years old, have lived in 4 different towns in 3 different states. i have family and friends in 7 different states along the eastern seaboard and have traveled quite a bit…
i have NEVER heard of such a thing.
PS –> what’s NRI?
There’s no specific custom like this, but as an NRI myself, I can say that in general, Americans do not use the main front room as a storage room, keeping it formal, having a sofas and a coffee table, but not much else. Other rooms such as the den or family room are used for toys, storage, and the like.
It seems that your son-in-law is more concerned about the look of this room than with the specific custom. You may want to suggest looking to other dealers that can sell window curtains and usable furniture that looks good and is functional. Try IKEA. The store has a lot of inexpensive stuff that looks good and still fits with the American living room decor.
ditto with Jeff never heard of such a custom
