Which Is The Best Type Of Cd/dvd To Upload Digital Pictures Too For Storage?
I have thousands of digital photos, all ranging in size from 450 kb- 2.32 mb that are on my computer. I would like to upload to cds. Exactly which cds or dvd’s do I buy and do you think this is the best way to store digital photos? Also how many pics can these cd’s or dvd’s normally hold?
I recommend that you use CD-R media for long term storage and here’s why.
While DVDs hold much more, they are much more susceptible to damage do to dust and fingerprints. For very long term storage, I would fear that DVDs might be damaged with the passing in time due to heat, cold, humidity. But CD-R media will probably last 50 years.
But set specific BURN options. Set the BURN speed to a slower speed. When you insert the disk, it might say that it can burn at 18X… but select a very slow speed like 4X. A slow burn also makes it much more reliable. ALSO, select FINALIZE DISK. When you CLOSE the burn session, you also write the CD Directory at the SLOW burn. This media will still work in many CD Players that are made in the future. Leaving the session OPEN might make it NOT WORK on a different CD Drive.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
The best disc would be a recordable DVD, either DVD+R or DVD-R, depending on which disc your player is compatible with.
Each one can store 4.7 GB of data. Which is a lot.
